Resolving our Education Crisis
My Thoughts:
My wife and I felt a calling to home educate our children, therefore, I do not have day to day contact with our public school system. All I can convey is what I have read and heard from friends whose children do attend public schools. I do believe that the lack of competition in our public education system is a detriment. To encourage competition, parents need to have options. Most of us have limited options due to finances. It is also my understanding that "No child left behind" has led to classrooms that prepare our children to take tests instead of teaching them to think.
I believe that the downward spiral of our society started with the removal of Bibles, the 10 commandments, and finally prayer from our public schools, but I am not advocating that we should force by legislation prayer and the Bible back into our public schools. If public schools do not meet the criteria for how parents desire their children to be educated, then they ought to be able to send them to any school they desire, be it Christian or not. Parents should be provided with voucher dollars that they can use to send their children to the school of their choice including homeschooling.
Struggle points as I understand them:
"No child left behind"
Federal Government - Department of Education
"Protected" teachers and administrators
Disruptive Classrooms
I support: Vouchers for private and home school education, elimination of "No child left behind", and a reduction of the Department of Education's influence over local public schools. I believe that parents should have choices when it comes to educating their children and that our public classrooms need to be managed by local citizens not by the federal government.
All schools both here and in America should teach far fewer subjects far better. -C.S.Lewis
